Agios Nikolaos is 110 kilometers from Thessaloniki, where Sithonia peninsula begins.

Today, with a permanent population of 2.500 habitants, the community of Agios Nikolaos is surrounded from north to south by dense pineforest and towards west by Sigitikos bay or Mount Athos bay.
