Ammouliani

Ammouliani

Hidden in the calm waters of the Mount Athos Gulf, Ammouliani is a lush, green paradise and the only permanently inhabited island in the entire Halkidiki region. Covering an area of just 4.5 square kilometers, this small but spectacular island offers an authentic Greek island experience, featuring Caribbean-like turquoise waters, golden sandy beaches, and a picturesque central village.

Ammouliani: A short ferry ride to paradise

One of the best things about Ammouliani is how incredibly accessible it is. You don’t need to spend hours on a boat to reach this island getaway.

The Ferry Route: Regular ferry boats (vaporettos) depart daily from the small port of Tripiti (located just before Ouranoupoli).

Duration: The scenic trip takes only 10 to 15 minutes, making it perfect for both a day trip and a longer summer vacation.

Transport: You can bring your car on the ferry, but the island is small enough to easily explore by renting a scooter, a quad bike, or even a small motorboat.

World-Class sandy beaches

The name ‘Ammouliani’ literally translates to ‘Fine Sand’, and the island absolutely lives up to its name. The coastline is dotted with spectacular, family-friendly beaches that have crystal-clear, shallow waters

Alikes Beach: The most famous and photographed Blue Flag beach on the island. A crescent-shaped bay with incredibly white sand, transparent waters, and excellent beach bars.

Agios Georgios & Megali Ammos: Fantastic, slightly quieter alternatives offering stunning views towards the Mount Athos peninsula and great facilities.

Karagatsia: A picturesque, sheltered cove ideal for those who want a more peaceful swimming experience

The traditional village and gastronomy

The main settlement of Ammouliani was founded in 1923 by Greek refugees from the Sea of Marmara, who brought with them a deep knowledge of fishing and unique culinary traditions.

Today, the picturesque village is built amphitheatrically around the main port. As you stroll through the narrow alleys full of blooming flowers, you will find excellent traditional seafood tavernas, cozy cafes, and small boutique shops. Do not leave without trying the freshly caught local fish and the traditional almond sweets.
