Camping in Halkidiki

Organized camping

Supposing that you will sleep in a sleeping bag and not in a bed, then going to an organized camping should not be different than going to a hotel with a shared bathroom. An organized camping has toilets, showers, laundries, restaurants and mini market too, where you can buy all the necessary supplies. Thus, the only thing you need in order to stay in an organized camping is a tent and your personal stuff.

We recommend taking with you :

Cleaner and detergent for the toilets and showers. Although the staff of the camping cleans regularly these areas, a quick sweep with your cleaner will not be considered excessive:

  • Toilet paper
  • Small stove, coffee and sugar
  • A small portable refrigerator
  • A flashlight
  • An organized small portable pharmacy
  • Ragbag

Free camping

Free camping is generally forbidden – if you get caught you may have to pay a fine of up to 150 euro per person is a fascinating experience mostly preferred by nature lovers.

It is very important to be very careful when you are picking up a place to camp. A desolated beach may sounds like a great idea, however if you choose it you will have to ensure your contact with the rest of the world (that is if you have a boat or you have reached your destination by a vehicle, which is not a small isolated island where a small boat comes twice a week, and most likely your cell phone does not have a signal).

Furthermore, there are many desolated beaches on the islands, which are ideal for camping. So, usually a boat transfers you there and upon agreement it comes by every day bringing you all the necessary supplies, and checking that everything is all right. Free camping means good organization and precautions.

The little things that you should take with you are many:

  • A small portable refrigerator and a thermos
  • Something to be used for shade (beach mat, sheet or special tents which are sold at camping ware stores)
  • A pocket knife
  • A small stove and a pan
  • Matches and lighters
  • Plastic plates, glasses and forks
  • Knife
  • One-two plastic bowls
  • Dish washer detergent
  • Toilet paper
  • An organized portable pharmacy
  • A flashlight
  • Insect repellent (for the body and spiral)

  • Water
  • Cans or ready meals
  • Potatoes (are easy to cook in the fire)
  • Fruits
  • Coffee
  • Sugar
  • Bread in toast, crackers, crisps
  • Croissant( without stuffing ) or biscuits

Although pareo and short-sleeved t-shirts are everybody’s favorite clothes, those who choose to go camping, should choose his/her clothes based on what he/she prefers best or considers more practical.

What you shouldn’t forget though is a jacket, a long-sleeved blouse, a long trousers and a pair of trainers.
